Reinvigorating SAE in Agriculture Education
For longer than 100 years, Agricultural Education programs have utilized a work-based learning component to make learning relevant for students.  With new Safety agreements, SAE for ALL initiative and utilizing electronic records to track metrics across programming - now is the best time the renew our love affair with SAE in Agricultural Education to show how our three component model is helping students achieve in Career and Technical Education.
1. Implement new agreement components. 2. Track valuable data metrics 3.Illustrate how SAE meets work-based learning outcomes.

Iowa's Restaurant & Hospitality Industries-Busting At The Seams With Career Opportunities
Pre-pandemic, workforce was the top challenge Iowa hospitality industry operators faced. Today, it is even more critical-Iowa's restaurant and hospitality industries need people, needs them now, and their Pandemic recovery depends on it. The stats are jaw-dropping! More than half of the state's restaurants are operating 20+% below needed staffing levels, 70% of operators cite the inability to find qualified workforce as the number one threat to their potential recovery from the impact of Covid-19 and 85% say the lack of workforce will impact future business plans. Learn what both industries are doing in Iowa high schools to face this challenge head on.Attendees will be able to:
- Understand the challenges facing the restaurant and hospitality industries with new jobs, labor shortages, and Pandemic recovery
- Analyze the state of Hospitality work-based learning education in Iowa (established CTE programs, training, certifications, and resources available through the Iowa Restaurant Association Education Foundation and the National Restaurant Association)
-Discover how connecting students to careers in the restaurant and hospitality industries contributes to high-quality, work-based learning experiences that can be foundational and transferrable for a variety of management and leadership skills employers ask for today.
- Understand the importance of Industry Partners to Iowa ProStart and Hospitality/Tourism programs.

Students Become Option Ready with ASVAB-CEP
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program is a federally-funded, no cost Career Information System.  Students are empowered to discover their strengths and interests.  It gives them the tools and confidence to map out post-secondary plans that work.  Students can explore many possibilities to make them Option Ready for the future.Differentiate between the different components of the ASVAB CEP.
Identify the two missions of the ASVAB CEP.
Explain the general function and predictive ability of the ASVAB.
Articulate how the ASVAB fits into the ASVAB CEP.
Explain how Holland’s RIASEC types help students with career exploration.
Articulate how the Find Your Interests (FYI) functions and why it uses gender-based reporting.
Explain how the results of the ASVAB and FYI can be used in the OCCU-Find to provide the basis of meaningful career exploration.
Lists sources of OCCU-Find job data and how it’s used to inform career planning.
Describe personalized career planning tools.
Identify different user groups who can benefit from Careers in the Military.

Teach CTE Project Overview and PSA Contest
Region III Iowa Policy Representative Greg Kepner will host this session as Region III contract lead, Shari Hernandez shares our recent project.
Hear about our six-state ACTE Region III strategic project that will develop and distribute a CTE PR toolkit for Region Members. Discover how you and your students can contribute by competing and developing Teach CTE Public Service announcements. The winning PSAs will be distributed to media outlets and included in the toolkit.
Iowa ACTE is a part of a six-state Regional network that includes IA, IL, IN, MO, MN, and WI.  The Region has been working on projects relating to the CTE teacher shortage issues since 2016 and has identified a larger need for unified messaging about the CTE teacher shortage that can be part of a national push for more CTE educators.  This session will allow participants to:
1. Discuss the project goals and messaging materials to be included in a Teach CTE toolkit that will be available to all Region III members.
2. Review the guidelines for the Region III Teach CTE PSA contest.
3. Integrate the PSA contest into their programming.
